Palazzo Chigi tried to "leave behind" the Calipari case

Rome, 12/20/2010

The Italian report on the tragic death of Nicola Calipari in Iraq, at least in part defined the unintentional killing, was built "specifically" to avoid further investigations of the Italian judiciary, and the Berlusconi government wanted to "leave behind" the story, however, that would not "damage" bilateral relations with Washington. You read it in a cable signed by the U.S. to Rome, Mel Sembler, in May 2005.
