conducted in the USA: gays in the military also
Rome, 12/18/2010
With an extremely wide majority, 65 votes in favor and 31 against, the Senate U.S. gave the green light to a law that fully recognizes the right of gays and lesbians in the U.S. military.
The new law, which the U.S. President will sign next week, repealing the so-called policy of 'Do not Ask Do not Tell "(do not ask it but I did not say), which has governed relations within the U.S. military for about 17 years.
Now the "American patriots", gay or lesbian, "it will not be 'more' asked to live a lie to serve the country they love. "Cosi 'Obama said the repeal of the final acceptance by the Senate rule prohibiting homosexuals to be members of the armed forces.
If the vote is a big win for Obama - that I had one of the themes of his campaign - and for Democrats, among Republicans there have been very critical items such as that of former candidate John McCain, who called today to "a very sad day."
It should be noted, however, that not a few Republican senators voted in favor of the ban on "Do not ask, do not tell" after the leaders of the Pentagon was assured that there would be no risk of the revision of rules.
